Bio

     Mark Sepic has been teaching in the GTA since 1980.  A devout guitarist and composer, he has performed and collaborated in settings ranging from modern dance and theatre to numerous pop and jazz recordings and broadcasts.  His ensembles have appeared regularly on nightclub and festival stages, including twelve consecutive years at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival while his solo shows and special projects have taken him as far as Germany Cuba and Singapore.  As an arts educator, Mark has distilled his rich and diverse experience into an integrated arts program which has intoduced countless students and teachers to the irrisistible joys of music.  His debut CD "El Vaco" is airing nationally on CBC radio and Jazz FM, and regionally on numerous world music programs.  Mark earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts/Music from York University and continues to study, travel and compose.

Mark Sepic Sextet  - original latin jazz project with

Les Allt, flutes; Paul Ormandy, percussion;  John Yelland, bass; Steve Tattersall, drums; Colin Campbell, guitar, cavaquinho. Latin/Jazz, with Cuban, Brazilian, Mexican, Caribbean and Flamenco flavours.

Guests have included : Bill McBirnie,  Paul Pacanowski, Phil Dwyer, reeds/flutes;  Jack McFadden, Willy Jarvis, Henry Heilig, Dick Felix, Dave Field, bass; Paul De Longe,  Mike McLennan, Enrique Loyola, Armando Borg, Al Cross, percussion; Brian Legere, Kevin la Liberte, guitars.

Repertoire includes : Mark’s compositions and arrangements of standards from jazz, latin, classical and pop.( ie: Hernandez: El Cumbanchero,  Bach: Air and Gigue,  Lauro: Venezuelan Waltz,  Villa-Lobos: Choro Typico,  Faure: Pavane,  Miles Davis: All Blues,  Beatles: I Feel Fine)

Nuevo Tango - modern tango quintet focusing on Astor Piazolla. Les Altt, Dominique La Plante, violin Walter Gugliotta, piano, John Yelland

Carlos Del Junco trio - with Al Cross, drums; Carlos on vocals/harp; Mark Sepic on guitar synthesizer, vocals, percussion.

Banana Beat – bandleader; latin dance band featured at festivals, events, and  CBC comedy series, “The Vacant Lot”.

 Collaborations: Carlos Del Junco, Rita di Ghent,  Peter Jarvis and Subtonic Monks, Samba Parabolica, John Southworth,  Jude Johnson.

 About the cdEl Vaco,  Mark’s  first, is  self – produced, featuring his own tunes and one traditional flamenco piece, Sevillanas. With its broad range of style and atmosphere, from  danceable ensemble tunes to evocative guitar solos and  primitive soundscapes, 

El Vaco is “…one fun spin... luscious and in-your- face..!”… Rita Di Ghent
