Bad Dads

Steel string wizard Phil Kane and nylon string alchemist Mark Sepic have been performing as the Bad Dads for the last 14 years. These Toronto –area musicians have developed a unique musical method that almost defies classification, but includes jazz, pop, blues, rock, funk and the music of central and South America. More than just a guitar duet, the Bad Dads both sing and can play flute, harmonica, various percussion instruments, Cuban acoustic instruments and if the mood is right, Mark will play his face! The repertoire includes more than 500 songs from all musical genres, all played with panache and wit. The Dads’ musical style has been described as “Latin soul meets surfin’ twang” and “Tito Puente and George Benson go to the beach with B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix”.  The shows are always loose and fun, with the Dads taking requests and bantering with the audience. Expanding the group is always a possibility, either when musical friends drop by, or when the venue requires a trio or quartet. Mark and Phil draw on their large network of exceptional musicians to add percussion, bass and woodwinds to the musical mix.  The Bad Dads bring years of professional musical experience to every gig, so the logistics, preparation and administrative aspects of a musical performance are addressed with efficiency and aplomb. This allows the Dads to concentrate on their primary objective – to have fun playing music!  The Bad Dads can play loud or soft and can present performances that range from fully produced (with high quality sound reinforcement and computer technology) to fully acoustic sets that require only a place to stand and play.  Let it be said that Mark and Phil are two of Canada’s top guitarists, with contrasting, but complimentary styles. Guitar nuts will be drawn to the duo’s formidable technique, execution and references to the greats of guitar. Music lovers will find much to love about the Dads – great playing and singing, and a repertoire that reflects their own musical good taste.
